    AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation's largest volunteer-run tax preparation service

    WASHINGTON, D.C.—AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking to expand its team of volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide, now in its 51st year, offers free in-person preparation and assistance to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. Volunteers make a difference in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers, and their families, who might otherwise miss out on the tax credits and deductions they’ve earned.

    WASHINGTON, DC—Today, AARP and AARP Foundation have asked the U.S. District Court to accept an amicus brief supporting the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). The brief explains many ways in which the ACA has greatly benefited older adults and emphasizes the importance of protections for people with preexisting conditions and the limits on charging higher rates based on age (age tax). AARP and AARP Foundation have requested that the court accept the brief in response to the state of Texas’ request for a preliminary injunction to stop implementation of the ACA.

    WASHINGTON, DC—A survey released today by AARP Foundation finds that only one gift really matters this year for Valentine’s Day: making time for others. Sixty-three percent of survey respondents said that spending time with a romantic partner or with friends or family is the most meaningful way to celebrate the holiday. Just 13 percent of those surveyed preferred receiving flowers, candy or other gifts.

    Free tax preparation service celebrates 50 years and 50 million served

    SAN FRANCISCO—AARP Foundation and Rock Health have announced DispatchHealth as the winner of the 2017 Aging in Place $50K Challenge, a startup competition for entrepreneurs with solutions that help vulnerable older adults remain in their homes and communities. The challenge is focused on innovations that reduce unnecessary health care services, costs and hospital readmission rates while allowing older adults the opportunity to live independently in their homes.
