WASHINGTON—Today, AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins issued the following statement in response to the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump:
“We are deeply saddened and concerned about the recent attempt on President Trump’s life.
“Political violence has no place in our country.
“At AARP, we believe in supporting each other, especially in times of crisis. Now is the time to stand united as a country and reflect on the importance of civility. We encourage everyone to come together and show care and respect for one another, regardless of political differences.
“In this election cycle -- with many critical issues at stake for AARP members, older voters and all Americans -- it is crucial that we uphold the values that make our nation strong and compassionate. Our thoughts are with Trump and his family.”
