LOS ANGELES - The five-time MLS Cup winning team, the LA Galaxy and AARP have entered into a multiyear agreement that names AARP an official and community sponsor. The agreement, brokered by AEG Global Partnerships, is AARP’s first in Major League Soccer and is the foundation for a joint campaign, “The Game Unites Us” (in Spanish: “El Juego Nos Une”). Community building and unification are very important to AARP’s work in California and nationwide, and both principles were catalysts in planning for this collaboration.
“Young and old – soccer unites us,” said Luis Campillo, AARP California, Los Angeles metro manager. “Soccer is a big deal in Los Angeles. People love to play soccer; they love to watch soccer. We are excited to work with the LA Galaxy and bring what we can to their fan experience and share their team with our members and volunteers in new and creative ways. We love how soccer brings families and generations together.”
This relationship was created to introduce a unique value offering to AARP’s 3 million members in California. As part of this sponsorship, during home games, AARP will have a presence on the concourse of the StubHub Center and will spotlight and celebrate the volunteers who embody the AARP spirit in the Los Angeles community.
LA Galaxy and AARP will also offer soccer enthusiasts the chance to attend an LA Galaxy fantasy training camp – a day of fun that will include professional training by former LA Galaxy players or select coaching staff, access to the locker room and training facilities at StubHub Center, a lunch with current team players and coaches, and more. To enter, fans 21 and up nominate a deserving person in their life and detail how he or she has supported their passion for soccer. Entries can be submitted online at http://sweeps.aarp.org/soccer. AARP and the LA Galaxy will choose 20 participants – 10 winners along with the person that nominated them – to attend the camp.
AARP is dedicated to elevating issues that are important for communities and people of all ages, including financial security, age-friendly living and family caregiving. Through its sponsorship, AARP will continue to draw attention to these issues by working with the LA Galaxy Foundation to support local communities through dedicated service projects. Furthermore, AARP, AARP Foundation, and the LA Galaxy Foundation will collaborate on community events that highlight their shared values.
“AARP and the LA Galaxy share a mutual interest in engaging the local soccer community and enhancing the fan experience through activities both in and outside the stadium,” said Robert Vartan, senior director, AEG Global Partnerships. “This strategic relationship allows us to shine a spotlight on the value of the work AARP does in Los Angeles, and we look forward to developing further service projects together.”
