The Fair Housing Justice Center (FHJC) has reached a settlement with four assisted living facilities in a lawsuit challenging discrimination against people with disabilities, particularly wheelchair users. FHJC was represented by attorneys from AARP Foundation, Mobilization for Justice, and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.

Topeka Independent Living Resource Center (TILRC) and Disability Rights Center of Kansas (DRC), acting on behalf of their constituents with mental illness, have reached an agreement with the State of Kansas to expand services and provide more community residential options for individuals living in, or at risk of being admitted to, Nursing Facilities for Mental Health (NFMH).

AARP announced today its endorsement of the bipartisan “Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act” (POWADA) that would strengthen federal protections of older workers. AARP praised the bipartisan leadership of Representatives Bobby Scott (VA-03), chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, and Rodney Davis (IL-13) who introduced the bill on Thursday. This bipartisan legislation is a companion to a Senate bill introduced by Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Patrick Leahy (D-VT).
