    WASHINGTON, DC—AARP Foundation announced today the grant recipients of its Hurricane Harvey fundraising efforts. With matching funds from AARP and AARP Foundation, the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund raised $3.25 million to help hurricane victims – especially those age 50 and older – in Houston and Southeast Texas.

    Report identifies areas of job growth and opportunity for older workers

    WASHINGTON, DC—AARP Foundation announced today the release of a comprehensive national report by the Urban Institute examining current employment for low-income older workers and the projected availability of different occupations. The report, funded by AARP Foundation, also examines low- and middle-wage occupations projected to grow most rapidly between 2014 and 2024 and analyze the education, experience, and on-the-job training requirements for those occupations. The purpose of the report is to better inform programming for workforce agencies and potential employers.

    Report reveals more older Americans working live below poverty line than ones who are unemployed

    WASHINGTON, DC—AARP Foundation announced today the release of a comprehensive national report by the Urban Institute examining current employment for low-income older workers and low- and middle-wage occupations projected to grow most rapidly between 2014 and 2024. This report, funded by AARP Foundation, is the first of its kind to study both older adults and low-income workers. With Americans living longer and life expectancy continuing to increase the research is designed to provide a better understanding of employment trends for low-income older workers.

    Foundation Shines Light on its Workforce Programs During National Employ Older Workers Week

    WASHINGTON, DC—AARP Foundation, during National Employ Older Workers Week, announced it has expanded its workforce opportunities for older workers through several programs, including the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), BACK TO WORK 50+, and Work for Yourself@50+. These programs are particularly relevant given that the number of Americans age 50+ who are working or looking for work has grown significantly over the past decade and is expected to continue to increase. The number of 50+ U.S. labor force participants is anticipated to grow from 25% in 2002 to 35% by 2022.

    Secure website now accepting donations to aid victims

    WASHINGTON, DC—In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, which ravaged the Caribbean and southeastern United States with significant storm surge flooding, damaging winds and rains, AARP Foundation has created a Hurricane Irma Relief Fund to support the storm victims – especially those age 50 and older. They are joined in this effort by AARP, the Miami Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross. The three organizations will match contributions - dollar for dollar - up to $750,000, with 100 percent of the money raised going directly into the community to support victims of Hurricane Irma.
